TDM was originally introduced (early eighties) as a tourer evolution of the big bicylindrical enduros. Later development were characterized by a still more tourer-wise drift.

Paris Exhibition (Sep 01) showed the 3rd generation, with the displacement increased till 900cc; aluminum has taken steel's place in the frame to increase the stiffness and reduce the overall weight, to favour an even more sporty drive.

Also the wheels are lighter (deriving from those of the super-sport R6), thus leading to a decrease of 11kg in the overall weight.
